The film grossed just under $100 million in theaters, a pretty hefty figure at a time when the prevailing view in theaters nowadays is that people will Only there to see what lost city no – namely, sequels, reboots or various and all sorts of existing IP extensions. The film also appealed to critics; the film received an amazingly high 78 percent on rotten tomatoes. Here is the official synopsis of the film:
Brilliant but introverted writer Loretta Sage (Sandra Bullock) has spent her entire career writing about exotic locations in her popular love-adventure novels featuring handsome cover model Alan (Channing Tatum), who has devoted his life to portraying protagonist Dash. While touring to promote her new book with Alan, Loretta is kidnapped by an eccentric billionaire (Daniel Radcliffe) who hopes she can lead him to the treasures of the ancient lost city from her latest story. Wanting to prove that he can be a hero in real life, and not just on the pages of her books, Alan goes to save her. Embarking on an epic jungle adventure, the unlikely pair will have to work together to survive the elements and find an ancient treasure before it is lost forever.
