Actor and Academy Award winner Cuba Gooding Jr. today pleaded guilty to forcibly touching a woman in New York City.
The case dates back to an incident in 2018 and was only solved after years of delays. Here again, through Associated Press:
Gooding was arrested in June 2019 after a 29-year-old woman told police that he squeezed her breasts without her consent at the Magic Hour rooftop lounge bar near Times Square. A few months later, he was charged in two more cases as more women accused him of violence. The new charges allege that he pinched a waitress on the buttocks after he made a sexual remark to her at TAO Downtown and forcibly touched a woman at a LAVO nightclub in 2018.
By pleading guilty, Gooding was able to avoid jail time. After six months of additional counseling, he may plead guilty to harassment and withdraw his earlier, more serious allegation. Gooding had previously pleaded not guilty to all of these charges and denied any wrongdoing. According to the AP, prosecutors hoped to call «19 other accusers» as witnesses against Gooding if the case went to trial.
Gooding, 54, received the 1996 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his work in Jerry Maguire. Among his other notable films boyz and hood, Flash, Where Dreams Leadand Pearl Harbor. In recent years, he has worked in television, including appearances in American Horror Story and played OJ Simpson for a while on American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J. Simpson.
