The first official teaser trailer for the highly anticipated Makoto Shinkai film. Suzume locks the doors was released, highlighting some of the incredible artwork in the upcoming film.

The new film has also received a release date along with a new trailer and key art, and the film is set to premiere on November 11, 2022 in Japan. Suzume Locking the Doors (working title) comes from Shinkai, who is best known for directing the 2016 hit. Your nameas well as 2019 Weathering with youboth of which catapulted the animator into superstardom.

Although not much of the film was shown, a still from the film shows the small and forgotten town of Springs, as well as the main character Suzume, who goes to an abandoned village. Shinkai spoke briefly about the film, noting that the film is about closing «the many doors we left open» and that he hopes the audience will leave the theater happy.
“We have to think about how to close the many doors we left open,” says director Makoto Shinkai as he continues to work on the film. “I put this responsibility on Suzuma as she travels around Japan closing different doors. I sincerely hope that this film will leave audiences with big smiles and excitement as they walk out of the theater.»

17-year-old Suzume’s journey begins in a quiet town in Kyushu when she meets a young man who tells her, «I’m looking for a door,» reads the film’s official synopsis. “What Suzume finds is a single weathered door, standing upright in the middle of the ruins, as if it had been protected from some sort of catastrophe. Seemingly mesmerized by its power, Suzume reaches for the handle… Doors begin to open one after another across Japan, unleashing destruction on all who are near. Suzume must close these portals to prevent further disaster.
