In accordance with TermMiramax has officially decided to cancel the production of Blumhouse’s Dracula movie titled Mina Harker, created by director Karin Kusama, who has been working on the project since 2020. Sources of the publication note that the cancellation is due to creative differences between the studio and Kusama. Prior to this, the horror film was originally scheduled to launch in three weeks, with Emmy winner Jasmine Cephas Jones set to lead the project.

Based on Bram Stoker’s 1897 horror novel of the same name, the Dracula film, directed by Karin Kusama, was co-written by Matt Manfedi and Phil Hay. Thanks to the critical and commercial success of Leigh Whannell’s book Invisible Man, Blumhouse hoped to give The Prince of Darkness a modern twist on the same modest budget as Elisabeth Moss’ thriller.
Mina Harker Kusama, Hay, Manfredi, Jason Blum and Bill Block of Miramax were to produce, with Bea Sequeira serving as executive producer.

Kusama is familiar with the horror genre, directing a comedy thriller Jennifer’s body written by Diablo Cody. She has also directed episodes of HBO. OutsiderBased on the novel of the same name by Stephen King. She recently worked on Showtime’s hit new series The Yellow Jackets, where she served as a pilot director and executive producer.
