Man, if I got a nickel every time I wrote that Title…
Oscar nominee James Cromwell was spotted supergluing himself to a Starbucks counter in New York this week. Cromwell made the move as part of an organized PETA protest; Cromwell and his colleagues were, so to speak, gluing Starbucks to the company’s decision to charge customers extra for vegan milk alternatives.
Glued to the counter, the outspoken actor and activist said, among other things: «When will you stop making huge profits while customers, animals and the environment suffer?»
The arriving police ordered the protesters to leave, and eventually Cromwell and the rest of the group dispersed. Before that, they chanted: “Save the planet, save the cows. Stop the vegan action now!”
Cromwell, who was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his work in the 1995s. babyhas also been seen in films such as Spiderman 3, Los Angeles Confidentialand Star Trek: First Contact. Most recently, he made a guest appearance on HBO. Succession. Cromwell’s award-winning work baby, where he played a kind-hearted farmer, inspired him to go vegan in the first place. In 2017 Cromwell was arrested in San Diego at a Sea World protest against the treatment of killer whales.
Cromwell is not the only star to take on this challenge. Last month, former Beatle Paul McCartney wrote a letter to the CEO of Starbucks to stop charging people extra for plant-based milk. “I must say it surprised me,” he wrote, noting that there are no additional costs for these products in the UK. «I would like to kindly ask you to consider this policy at Starbucks USA as well.»
So far, no star has been able to get the network to change that policy. You can watch some of Cromwell’s protests here.
