HBO has finally set a premiere date for its upcoming limited drama adaptation Irma Vep, based on the 1996 cult classic film by Olivier Assayas. The series is set to premiere on Monday, June 6 on HBO and HBO Max. Prior to its air debut, the film will have its world premiere as an official selection at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival.
The announcement of the date occurs simultaneously with the release of the first Irma Vep photos showing our first look at Oscar winner Alicia Vikander’s lead role as the award-winning actress.

«Set against the backdrop of a macabre crime thriller, it will center around an American movie star named Mira as she struggles as the differences between her and the character she plays begin to blur and merge,» the logline says. Vikander will play Mira, a movie star «disillusioned with her career and recent relationship breakdown, who moves to France to play Irma Vep in a remake of the French silent film classic Vampires.»
Irma Vep The scriptwriter and director of the mini-series is the famous French director Olivier Assayas. Vikander is joined by Vincent Macane as René Vidal, Jeanne Balibar as Zoe, Devon Ross as Regina, Lars Eidinger as Gottfried, Vincent Lacoste as Edmond Lagrange, Nora Hamzawi as Carla, Adria Arjona as Lori, Carrie Brownstein in as Zelda, Tom Sturridge as Eamonn. Byron Bowers as Herman, Fala Chen as Cynthia Keng, Hippolyte Girardot as Robert Danjou, Alex Descas as Gregory Desormeaux and Antoine Reinartz as Jeremy. Oscar nominee Kristen Stewart will also reportedly play a small role.

Irma Vep The series is executive produced by Assayas and Vikander, along with EuphoriaA24, Sam Levinson and Kevin Touraine. Ashley Levinson and Stuart Manashil are also set to serve as executive producers.
The original film starred Hong Kong actress Maggie Cheung and Jean-Pierre Leo, with Cheung playing herself. It premiered at the 1996 Cannes Film Festival to positive reviews from critics.
