Three years after launch, Amazon is officially changing the name of its free, ad-supported video-on-demand streaming service from IMDb TV to Amazon Freevee. Its restart is scheduled for the end of this month, April 27th. In addition to its US and UK offerings, the company also plans to expand Freevee to Germany later this year.

The streaming service’s upcoming rebrand also aligns with Amazon’s plans to increase originals by 70% in 2022, including Bosch: Legacy spin-off, which will debut on May 6; Australian crime drama Troppo; a coming-of-age comedy called Primo; and forthcoming high school series from Clea Duvall, along with Tegan and Sarah Queen.
«Over the past two years, we’ve seen tremendous growth in our AVOD service and are committed to providing free, premium content to our audience,» Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios, said in a statement. “We look forward to building on this momentum with a growing number of inventive and broadly engaging originals, and are excited to make Freevee the premier AVOD service with content audiences crave.”
“We have been thrilled with the response from viewers to our state-of-the-art streaming television network,” said Lauren Anderson and Ryan Pirozzi, co-heads of content and programming at Freevee. “With Freevee, our current and future viewers will discover a home that gives creative talent the freedom to tell impressive, entertaining and inspiring stories; a service accessible to all and free from restrictions on time intervals and availability of devices; and a destination that provides customers with both new and familiar, exciting and engaging content for free.”

Amazon Freevee will also include exclusive original films such as the romantic comedy love by chance Starring Brenda Song and Aaron O’Connell. The new shows are expected to be announced on May 2.
