IO Interactive is still developing Hitman 3second year of content and now the developer has provided an update on some of its most important features and revealed the title’s roadmap for the month of May. Freelancer mode has been delayed, but the new map will arrive in July.
In accordance with IO message, the Freelancer mode is being pushed to the second half of 2022 to «support the further development of this truly expansive and fun game mode.» The team said it’s a luxury to be able to push back an update in the future, and gave it extra time to «tighten the bolts and make sure the mode is as close to [its] ambition as far as possible. Some players have even tested it, helping IO in his quest to fully implement this new mode. IO is also getting ready to reveal more about Freelancer and what players can expect from it in the future.

Previously, the developer said that Freelancer will appear in the spring. This mode will bring back Agent 47’s hideout (which is now customizable) and will function similarly to roguelike as players can choose their loadout and mission order before heading out. While their full scope is yet to be revealed, these missions are also somewhat dynamic, as the heavily guarded leaders at the top of each chain change each time.
However, IO also revealed more about the upcoming map called Ambrose Island (formerly called «Rocky») and posted a screenshot of it. The team hasn’t said exactly when the card will be released in July or confirmed a price. But his story will take place before Hitman 3 and fill in «several gaps» in the trilogy’s storyline.
Information about these larger modes has been updated with a May roadmap that looks at the short-term future of the game. IO has adjusted its schedule to compensate for Freelancer’s delay by adding more recommended contracts. They will appear along with three returning elusive targets: The Fugitive, The Accountant, and The Iconoclast. The fugitive is notable for having a randomly chosen path and a face (which is chosen from three) that changes each time the missions begin.
A new close-range Ducky Gun with an «alternative firing sound», a «Duck Hunt» challenge, a yellow rabbit costume, and a patch will also be available until the end of May. The newly changed IO plans will also be circulating over the next few months, but those details are still under wraps.
