“The idea was to get a group of great people together to see if they could become something big. To see if they can work together when we need them. To fight battles we never could.»
This is Nick Fury talking about the Avengers. But he could also talk about the movie Avengers and the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After 14 years and dozens of films, look what happened to this idea; bring all these wonderful people together and see that yes, they could to be something more when they worked together, when their films intertwined with each other to a giant meta-narrative. 14 years ago it all seemed crazy. An Iron Man movie? Who cares about Iron Man? Starring Robert Downey Jr. Did he have a drug problem? And then they’re going to do Ant-Man movie? It will never work.
And yet, as we sit here more than a decade later, we can say with absolute certainty that it worked. iron Man spawned a sequel, plus The incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain Americaand Avengers. Then six more films. Then seven more after that. (Ant-Man eventually showed up, but it took a while.) 13 years later, we’re in the middle of phase four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness. What better time than now to rank them all?
After watching Multiverse of Madness and by revisiting previous MCU movies, I came up with this guaranteed by no means controversial ranking, from the worst movie Marvel has made so far (you know what that is) to the best. Again, this my personal qualities. To learn more about what I think of each film, please follow the links to the related essays in my History of the Marvel Cinematic Universe column. Then come back in a few months when we do it all over again for… any next Marvel release.
Every movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe ranked from worst to best.
It started with iron Man and it has continued and expanded ever since. This is the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which has 28 films. But what is better and what is worse? We ranked them all.
