Dying Light Dev Unveils New Fantasy RPG, Includes Witcher, Horizon Vets

Dying Light 2 just released in February and original dying light still getting regular updates over seven years later, but that doesn’t mean developer Techland isn’t busy making other games. The studio has revealed more about the open-world fantasy RPG they are developing alongside the talent that has worked on titles like Zero dawn horizon, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Noose of deathand more.

The game in question does not have an official title, release window, or platform. And while the existence of a studio developing an open-world fantasy RPG may seem like something new, lead designer Timon Smektala talked about such a game in recent interview with youtuber OniZombies. Smektala even said that the RPG is being developed by a Warsaw team. Despite this, Techland has only released one concept art of the new IP and has said it is finalizing this RPG, which is apparently still in its early stages. Techland CEO Pavel Marchevka spoke about how the team wanted to try something new after creating two dying light games.

“We are very pleased with what we have achieved with dying light franchise until now,” Marchevka said. “In addition, our journey with Dying Light 2 Stay Human has just started as we plan to support this game for at least five years, with scope and size if not greater than what we provided to our community during support after the launch of its predecessor. At the same time, we are aiming to introduce a completely new intellectual property that is very different from what we have been doing for the past few years. We want to create a new generation experience. The action of the new fantasy epic takes place in a huge open world, which is based on the skills and experience accumulated by our team over the years, as well as new ideas, passion and creativity. While we can’t share more details about this project right now, we’ve all really invested in it and look forward to showing it to gamers when the time is right.»

Techland has also hired a number of contributors with open world RPG experience, three of whom come from CD Projekt Red, also based in Poland. Karolina Stakhira is a screenwriter who previously worked for CD Projekt Red on the last two films. Witcher games. The same is true for Arkadiusz Borovik, the narrator in this enigmatic role-playing game. Bartosz Ohman also came from CD Projekt Red and worked on The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077.

Mario Maltezos is a creative director formerly of Ubisoft, Warner Bros. and Microsoft. David McClure, Lead Game Designer, is known for his work at Arkane Studios, Deep Silver and Playground Games. Kevin Quaid, lead animator, worked at Guerrilla Games and helped make Zero dawn horizon. And finally, Marcin Surosz came from another Polish developer, People Can Fly.

Techland has asked interested candidates to apply for jobs at the studio, which is par for the course with recent openings like this. Many see the announcement of the title at such an early stage as a way to attract talent. Blizzard Entertainment has unveiled a survival game with little to nothing to show. CD Projekt Red has announced a new Witcher installment only with image. Rockstar Games told about something else Grand Theft Auto without any picture or trailer. These three examples also come from developers with poor workplace practices, which could also be why these particular studios need to announce a new game to get more people involved.
