Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Review: A Stellar MCU Entry

When was the last time you saw insanity? The master of the mystic arts returns to intervene in other worlds. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, a superhero film that sees famed Sam Raimi return to the genre for the first time in 15 years. After Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) accidentally opened a portal to the multiverse in Spiderman: No Way Home, he must protect a young girl, America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez), from the threats she faces in all universes. This film is a cinematic force that goes the extra mile to create a superhero experience like no other.

We live in the golden era of superhero cinema. Over the past few months we have seen Spiderman worlds collide, thrill batman, and we saw Jared Leto turn into a vampire for some ungodly reason. While Marvel could easily have reached its peak with Avengers: EndgameKevin Feige has proven to have a few tricks up his sleeve to keep viewers glued to their seats. Like most Marvel movies, it’s impossible to look away in this movie once it starts, as the opening scene takes us straight into the multiverse.

From the very beginning, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness visually incredible. Original Doctor Strange was an excuse for Marvel to show off their impressive visuals. With a character who can travel across dimensions and a director known for his superb visual style, Raimi and Strange are a match made in heaven. The powers of the Sorcerer Supreme become those of a Hollywood director as we have material tailor-made for Raimi’s skills as a director of superhero films, horror films, or, in this case, in-between.

The PG-13 rating couldn’t keep Raimi from digging into his horror roots with some incredible horror scenes. While the superhero spectacle outweighs the fright feast and it’s by no means a horror movie, Raimi plays with sequences that evoke supernatural thrills. Ring and incessant killing Terminator. This is the theatrical Marvel Cinematic Universe at its bloodiest, pushing the boundaries of the PG-13 rating with some violent moments meant for an older audience. Fortunately, this film is not so much aimed at a wide audience, but to give viewers incredible pleasure.

And what an incredible time this movie is with pure brilliance from Raimi. Since 2013 Oz the great and mighty he hadn’t made a new film and his style was sorely lacking. With a stunning return, he throws everything he can onto the screen, from dizzying rotations and camera movements to vibrant color grading and an expanded world with more sorcerers and more breathtaking views. His shot design continues to impress, and he owns every moment of the film, adding jump scares, kills, and eyeball shots to the MCU.

Screenwriter Michael Waldron, formerly of Lokidoes a great job with the characters. The film opens with Doctor Strange’s personal life and relationship with Cristina, exploring how things have changed between the two since the events of the first film. It’s always great when a hero as powerful as him gets hung up on pure emotion. Marvel has always been able to make its heroes human first and superheroes second. It comes back into play with great moments with Doctor Strange throughout the movie.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Overview

The film also features the return of Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch after the events of her miniseries. WandaVision. The events of this show define her purpose in this film, as Doctor Strange enlists her help in navigating the multiverse. Despite Wanda’s hostile behavior, she always remains a sympathetic person. At their core, Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch are two people who can’t be with the ones they love, traveling through a multiverse where anything is possible. My only wish is that the film explores ideas and characters more, as all the necessary ingredients are there, but the film could benefit from extending its character moments.

It’s amazing how these two heroes are not only similar in their motivations, but are also two of the most powerful people in the MCU. Seeing their power on display is something to watch out for as the movie takes full advantage of their abilities and shows how great power can be used for the wrong reasons. With a gripping concept of alternate universes, this film has something for almost everyone who watches it.

Although the film, unfortunately, never became a full-fledged horror film, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness reimagines traveling the world by jumping from globe to globe on an exciting thrill ride. This movie is a visual feast for the eyes as the story goes on, choices shrink and stakes rise. The film offers a few surprise appearances from new and old characters, but it’s not a cameo fest. Instead, it’s a non-stop, mind-blowing roller coaster of a superhero movie, with Olsen delivering his best performance in the MCU. It may not be the best superhero movie or the best multiverse movie of the year, but it has at least one scene that the audience loved so much that I screamed out loud; madness, really.
