Marvel Studios Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was filled with an impressive number of cameos and other characters appearing in the film.

However, from the very beginning, fans expected Tom Cruise to appear as an alternate universe of Tony Stark. However, according to the film’s screenwriter, there were never any concrete plans for this, despite all the fans believing it would happen.
Speaking with rolling stonescreenwriter Michael Waldron, who was Loki’s head writer and also wrote the screenplay for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness — said that while fans were very keen on Cruz appearing as Iron Man, there is no footage of Cruz anywhere. However, Waldron noted that he tried to get Cruise to appear in the film due to the many rumors.
“Yes, it was completely made up. I mean, there are no Tom Cruise cutouts!” Waldron said. «But I love Tom Cruise and I said [Marvel Studios president] Kevin [Feige] at some point I thought, «Can we get Tom Cruise’s Iron Man?» I remember reading about it in Ain’t It Cool News at one time that Tom Cruise was going to be Iron Man.»
The cruise was associated with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness for a while, the two have been linked by many due to Cruise’s bid for the role of Tony Stark back in the late 2000s. However, Waldron noted that no one from Marvel Studios had officially contacted Cruise, and that in the end it all came down to Cruise’s schedule being so busy between the two. Mission Impossible 7 and Mission Impossible 8which led to him not showing up.

«Well, I mean, he shot Mission Impossible 7 and eight» Waldron said before being asked if anyone had reached out to Cruz. «I do not think so. I just don’t think it was ever an option because of the availability.»
