Doctor Strange 2 Shows That the MCU Combines With Horror Surprisingly Well

When you think of recent Marvel films, the last thing that comes to mind is horror. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is full of funny, bombastic and addictive movies perfect for any audience. It’s not like that with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which shocked the general public when it dabbled in the horror genre. However, the biggest surprise is not that he mixed horror elements, but that he did it quite well.

Before Multiverse of Madness was I assumed that after a bit of conflict between the two, Wanda would go on a journey through the multiverse with Dr. Strange as an ally. I had no idea this Marvel sequel would actually take the form of a slasher movie with Wanda as Michael Myers and Doctor Strange and America Chavez as Laurie Strode. Many decisions made by Strange and company. done to avoid or warn others about Wanda.

This is not a clash of ideals represented by powerful heroes and villains, this is a journey of conservation against the forces of nature. Strange, Wong, Reed, and Professor Xavier try to reason with Wanda, but if you’ve seen the slasher, you know how good they are at it. My point is that this is an unconventional premise for a Marvel movie that is generally known for its simple routine.

Part of it comes down to an aspect of the MCU that’s been criticized a lot: the lack of directorial freedom. Many Marvel films tend to stylistically blend together. How much it bothers you may vary, but it’s a valid complaint given past situations such as Edgar Wright’s departure from Ant-Man. Still here in Multiverse of Madness, there is a clear Raimi vibe to everything – a surprise, of course, but a welcome one. I’m not saying it’s a scary, straight-forward horror movie, but it does have a bit more directorial flavor than any previous Marvel movie. Till Thor Ragnarok and guardians of the galaxy The films do have a touch of directorial style that has never felt so tight as it does in films. Doctor Strange continuation.

In addition to Raimi’s classic zooms and angles, some characters are burned alive and torn to ribbons, while others have their necks broken and their brains brutally destroyed. It’s a far cry from the usually sanitized violence of the MCU. I mean Doctor Strange is in possession of the decaying corpse of himself and channeling the souls of the damned to torment Wanda while she tries to sacrifice a teenager. It’s pretty intense for a modern PG-13 movie and I loved every second of it. Maybe it’s because it’s very Evil Dead it was, but it really felt like a shake-up for a Marvel movie.

It’s this somewhat divisive change that I want to praise, as it has somewhat changed my view of the MCU. If the Sam Raimi of all people manages to pull off his signature direction in a superhero movie, maybe Marvel will relax a bit and reach out to directors known for their strong vision and let them off the leash a bit. Perhaps they will continue to experiment with different genres or return to horror with characters like Blade and Ghost Rider. Do I expect this to happen immediately and without any hangups? Definitely not, but I see this as a good sign for the franchise as we gear up for its 29th entry in July.

I hope success Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness encourages Marvel to allow a bit more freedom when it comes to trying out different genres, as it worked brilliantly in Multiverse of Madness. Their diverse character library can easily be used in all sorts of different films, which can go a long way in preventing the ever-foretold «superhero fatigue» from ever occurring. At least I hope we get another Raimi. Doctor Strange movie – because the MCU can clearly handle a little bit of horror.

Lover of movies and series. rather. lover to the cinema in generating. I hope you like my blog.
