Neon dropped official Crimes of the future trailer for David Cronenberg’s latest sci-fi horror film starring Viggo Mortensen. It is set to hit select theaters in New York and Los Angeles on June 3rd, followed by a wide theatrical release on June 10th.
The film also recently received an R rating from the MPAA for «highly disturbing violent content and gruesome imagery, graphic nudity and some profanity», which is evident throughout the trailer.

The action takes place in the not too distant future. Crimes of the future written and directed by David CronenbergFly, Maps to the stars). Cast: Viggo Mortensen, Kristen Stewart, Lea Seydoux, Scott Speedman, Welket Bunge, Don McKellar, Leahy Kornowsky, Tana Beatty, Nadia Litz, Yorgos Karamichos and Yorgos Pirpassopoulos.
“In the film, as the human species adapts to the synthetic environment, the body undergoes new transformations and mutations,” reads the synopsis. “Together with his partner Caprice, Saul Tenser, the famous performance artist, publicly demonstrates the metamorphoses of his organs in avant-garde performances. Timlin, a researcher at the National Organ Registry, obsessively tracks their movements, and that’s when the mysterious group is revealed… Their mission is to use Saul’s fame to shed light on the next phase of human evolution.»
The film marks the third collaboration between Cronenberg and Mortensen, after working together on the acclaimed History of violence and Eastern Promises. Production took place in Athens, Greece.

Crimes of the future is a co-production between Neon, Serendipity Point Films and Argonauts Productions. The producers are Steve Solomos and Panos Papahadzis of Argonauts, and the executive producers are Joe Iacono, Thorsten Schumacher, Peter Touche, Kristel Konan, Aida Tannian, Victor Lowy and Victor Hadida. Bonnie Doe and Laura Lanctrie are also attached as associate producers.
