The amazing cast of Denis Villeneuve Dune gets even better for the upcoming completion of the story, Dune: part two.
To the ranks of returning actors Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya, Josh Brolin and Dave Bautista, we can now obviously add Christopher Walken to play – who else? — Emperor of the Known Universe.
This is according to Termwhich says Walken is one of the new additions to Dune in the sequel, alongside Florence Pugh, who plays the emperor’s daughter, Princess Irulan, and Austin Butler (aka Elvis in Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming biopic), who plays the villain Fade-Raut.
In the David Lynch film, the role of the Emperor was played by José Ferrer. Irulan was Virginia Madsen and Sting (yes, that same Sting) was Fade-Rauta in one of the most infamous metallic bathing suits in film history.
All three of these characters appeared in Lynch’s novel. Dune but was absent from Villeneuve due to his decision to break Frank Herbert’s original novel in half and make only the first part into his film. After the first half Dune did well in theaters, on HBO Max and with critics, Warner Bros. gave Villeneuve the green light to create the second half of the novel, which required the addition of these new characters.
Walken, in particular, is such an exciting choice for the role. Dune so crazy, who else could really play the leader of such a banana existence than Christopher Walken? In truth, it is impossible to imagine a better candidate for this role.
Dune: Part Two scheduled to open in theaters on October 20, 2023. Dune!!!!
