A recent April Fool’s joke could potentially lead to a highly anticipated sequel to the 2014 thriller. Guest.

During April Fools’ Day in 2022, director Adam Wingard, who directed the 2014 thriller before moving on to bigger franchises including last year’s godzilla vs kong – released soundtrack Guest 2, a movie that doesn’t exist. However, due to the original GuestCult classic status, as well as love for the original soundtrack, the April Fool’s joke was received incredibly well and even potentially opened the door for a new movie.
talking to EmpireWingard revealed that the prank actually caused him and screenwriter Simon Barrett, who wrote the first film, to enter «creative space» with each other about what a potential sequel might look like.
«It really pushed me and Simon [Barrett] to the creative space. we are talking about [developing] potential sequel as a real project,» said Wingard, who also noted that actor Dan Stevens «would love to do that,» before teasing that maybe a limited series would be more appropriate for a new installment. “Perhaps the most interesting thing is not the continuation Guest. Maybe it will be a limited series that we can really sink our teeth into.»
Original Guest premiered in 2014 and was dedicated to an American soldier-turned-tramp (Stevens) who shows up at the family’s doorstep and says he was their friend who died in action. However, things quickly take a strange turn, which leads to the family trying to figure out who the drifter really is.

When it originally opened, Guest did not receive a lukewarm reception, earning just under $3 million at the box office despite positive reviews from critics and fans. However, upon its home video release, the film became a cult hit, with fans praising the performances, the semi-supernatural plot, and its accompanying 1980s synthwave soundtrack.
